My name is Dean and I am a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist providing treatment of anxiety disorders and depression in adults. I am currently able to offer CBT appointments in Kings Hill, Kent, ME19.
I initially qualified as a Mental Health Nurse in 1998 before starting my training in CBT in 2002. I trained in the use of cognitive and behavioural therapies for anxiety disorders and depression, and then in 2005 went on to complete an additional Post-Graduate Diploma in Cognitive Therapy for severe mental health problems, including personality disorders and psychosis. In training in more complex problems I was introduced to a wide range of therapy approaches within the CBT family, one of which was Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) which I developed a strong interest in and have continued to train in and use over the last 10 years. ACT uses acceptance and mindfulness based skills to help reduce the struggle with difficult thoughts and feelings in order to enable desired behaviour change towards personal goals and values.
My specialist area is in working with the anxiety disorders and related problems, using a brief, structured and collaborative approach. I am committed to providing an approach that is clear, active and focused, that helps makes sense of the problems and what is maintaining them, and that provides an effective protocol for how to successfully manage problems with anxiety, stress and low mood.
I am accredited by the BABCP and abide by their professional and ethical standards. I have full professional indemnity and current DRB clearance.
